The S Family - Plymouth, Michigan Children & Family Photography

What do you say when you find out your friend has cancer? What words can you possibly say that would offer any comfort? Do you tell them you are sorry? Sorry for what? Sorry that she has to go though this, sorry she is so young, sorry that this will be a long road, sorry you can't take it away, sorry her son has to watch his mom get sick, sorry we have no cure other than the toxic drugs that will make her even more sick and lose her beautiful hair, sorry that you have nothing else you can say?

Kristy is an amazing person. I met her 2 and a half years ago when I joined the Plymouth Playgroup. She was always such a welcoming person and wanted to make life better for other moms. She got sick in January and we all received an e-mail that she had gone through an emergency abdominal surgery. Weird, I thought, what a fluke thing to happen. Then we got the second e-mail. This next one explained that when she left the hospital they had told her something that would change her life. They told her she had Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin large B cell lymphoma. They told that her they would be treating her with Chemo. I cannot imagine the blow that must have been. I cannot imagine explaining cancer to my 3 year old as she will have to explain to hers.

I saw Kristy at a playdate the other day and we were talking about the photos I took of her and her son the previous summer, and how she wanted to get that family session in, but it looked like she was going to be bald soon. Bald soon... I can't imagine losing my hair. I can't imagine having cancer either, but losing my hair too?! We chatted a bit and decided to do her family session this week. It was a little last minute, but isn't that how life is?!
