I have been getting quite a few e-mails on being a mentor or helping out with some photo related question. I decided that I will try and answer some of these questions on my blog as I am not ready to take a mentoring role...just yet.
If you have a question please send me a note and I can answer it on my blog.
Today's question...What is a RAW file?
A RAW file is the unprocessed file that is captured by your DSLR camera when you take a photograph. It is basically the closest thing to what film is in a film camera. RAW is uncompressed unlike JPG. RAW gives you flexibility and room to edit the photo in post processing to fix and adjust things you may have missed in the actual shot. For example you can recover blown out whites (within limit) Unfortnatly you can't take a RAW file and print it out- you must first convert it to a JPG or TIFF. So, using RAW increases your abilities, but it also increases your workflow. Hope that helps!

Kennsington Family Picnic! Plymouth, MI Children & family Photography
I love my sister in laws! We decided to get together for the 1st annual K/B picnic. It was awesome except that 1 family member did not show and 2 family members were politely not invited (I am terrible I know).
I was pumped to bring my camera and take some shots of the cousins. I was so excited to get them together to get a great group shot. I should have known better than to expect this...My oldest who is unreliable for photos was AWESOME, but little B was crazy and very upset at this idea. It was terrible, but it was REAL and that is what makes this photo...priceless!
I had to add one of my adorable nephew

South Haven - a little piece of heaven - Plymouth, MI Newborn & Infant Photography
Ry and I celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary on the 17th. To surprise me he booked a weekend stay at a cute little Bed and Breakfast on the East side of the state. It was called The Last Resort and it was kinda fitting as he had to find a B&B that would take our little B ;) Yes, we brought our 4 month old. I just cannot leave her yet! I know...but at least I got some great photos of her and I actually had time to take photos for fun and not of people! I am NOT a landscape person, but I have to say I did impress myself with my hidden landscape talent! The crazy thing was I wanted to use my new "old" lens and so I forced myself just to use that lens the entire trip. My favorite is of this little green ladybug. It was the hardest photo to take with this crazy wide angle lens I have, but it turned out rather fun. Thanks honey for 4 wonderful years and 1 amazing weekend retreat! I heart you!

Mommy and Me Sessions - Plymouth, MI Children & family Photography
I am a member of an AWESOME playgroup. Seriously it is awesome! I think even when my kids are too old for "playgroups" I will still be a member! I have met so many great friends and have such an amazing resource of information and help. To try to give back to them I offered a free mini session and it went REALLY well! Here are a few from last Friday!

D and J's family!
What is better than an adorable 3 year old? Two adorable 3 year olds! This past week I had the pleasure of photographing my friend's family portraits. I was a little worried having a 2 year year old at home I know how they totally rule the sessions. I had nothing to fear these two were ready to ham it up for the camera and they sure look cute! Here are a few of my favorites:

Madi's Senior Sneak Peak
My brother-in-law and his girlfriend went camping this year with our family up north. When she found out I took senior pictures and I was having a session up there, she jumped at the opportunity to have some amazing beach photos. I did half of her session up there, and then when we came back home I took a few more of her in Plymouth. I decided I had to do two sessions for her, because what girl wouldn't want a session where she can be at her own home to get ready?!

Diane's Senior Sneak Peak!
Last week I shot Diane's senior photos at various locations around Ann Arbor. Our first appointment got postponed by rain (gotta love that Michigan weather), and just when we rescheduled to what we thought would be a perfect evening, it rained again! We were so lucky that it only sprinkled though. We had a good laugh because the rain seemed to be saying to us the whole time: "Hey, I can downpour at any point now!" Needless to say we were grateful that they were only "small" showers! We had a great 3 hours dodging the rain drops in some fun locations around the city. Here are just a few of the many photos :) I hope you love them as much as I do!

More Family Fun
I enjoy photographing families. I love to watch as they interact with each other and play... after they adjust to me watching them with a camera. I was so excited when my friends asked if I would take their family photos this year. I actually have never photographed 2 three year olds, fraternal twins in fact, before and it was a lot of fun. I laughed, I ran and I played :) Here are a few from the coldest day in August!
These photographs were taken at a local park here in Plymouth. I love family sessions!

Ina Booth Photography
My friends Megan and Jason came to me to take their family photos the other day. I love this family as they are like me and share a passion for photography and business! They are not my competitors though as they own a small business called InaBooth Photography based out of Canton Michigan. The provide on location photo booths that are perfect for any party! I wish I would have done this for my wedding! They offer high resolution photos for the guest of honor or wedding couple. They travel anywhere around the Metro-Detroit area and will even travel out of state if you pay their lodging (even then their prices are lower than the competitors!). Isn't that a great idea for a Birthday party, Graduation Party or Wedding?! I love it and I wish them great success with their business! If you know of a bride to be make sure you pass on their information.

Lani
Good thing I brought my camera on vacation! I was able to capture some moments with my friend's little one while visiting Traverse City! She was barely 2 weeks old and was just so adorable! As soon as we got back to her place I whipped my camera out to take advantage of such cute subject matter!
